Self Defense Training
Weight Loss
We often get asked if participating in the martial arts can help with achieving a weight loss goal. The answer is…Yes! There are many variables that contribute to weight gain, including stress, lack of exercise, diet, etc. The good news is that taking part in an active martial arts self defense class, like those offered at our Dojo, is designed to help reduce and manage stress as well as get your body moving and burning calories through performing the martial arts defense routines- called katas. These special exercises use all the different muscle groups to help you become physically fit and burn the calories needed to promote weight loss. According to one popular weight loss calculator, “The average (150 lb) person burns 475-575 calories per hour at slower pace martial arts. Moderate pace martial arts will burn 750-900 calories per hour.”
Cardio
First, cardio is what allows a martial artist to have the stamina and strength to accomplish a self defense goal. Without an emphasis on cardio, our Dojo would be dead in the water before it even started. That’s why the hard work of repetition is built into every class- to get you sweating and working your heart to improve your cardio, so your body can perform at its optimal value- changing fat to muscle in its course. Our Martial Arts Classes do promote heart health!
Strength
Our Dojo understands the importance of strengthening both the mind -the concentration and environment awareness- and the body’ – in stances, kicks, blocks, and strikes. Tai Jutsu Martial arts is the perfect strength training activity. Building each layer of muscle through these exercises sustains not only the look of the body, but how it ultimately performs in stressful situations. How a student carries himself–the stance– on and off the mat melds into other areas of life including work, sports, school, and socially. Our Dojo’s self defense system also emphasizes strength in character and models the tenets of good citizenship. No one can deny the great feeling that comes with having a physically fit body and the confidence that exudes from someone who is comfortable and strong in their own skin.
Personal Self-Defense Training
Your personal self-defense training begins with a one-to-one consultation to determine your specific needs, goals, experience, and interests. You or your loved one is then matched with one of our programs that suits the unique attributes of your situation. In every self defense course we offer, you are treated as family. Your complete satisfaction is our priority.

Ages 12 & up Minimum 2 Classes Per Week
The Kindai Inazuma Ryu Tai Jutsu program is our core martial arts system. Kindai means “modern,” “Inazuma” means lightning, “Ryu,” means system or style, and “Tai Jutsu, stands for body science. Study in this system requires an adult student to commit to at least 2 classes per week. The students will be exposed to different stretching exercises that will increase their flexibility and muscle tone. They will be put through a cardio workout, which will help them burn calories and lose weight. They will learn both physical and cognitive concepts of the martial arts through strategies and tactics. Students will also be exposed to the history and philosophy, and may also study the spirituality of the system if the students so desire. In these classes, we focus on practical self-defense, for street situations in today’s world, primarily focusing on close quarter combat. We utilize pressure points, joint manipulations, nerve centers, off-balancing techniques, punches, kicks, throws, ground fighting techniques, as well as knife, gun, and club defensive techniques. Our program is a complete martial arts defensive system.
Jr. Martial Arts Kindai Inazuma Ryu Tai Jutsu
Ages 7-12 Minimum 2 Classes Per Week
The Kindai Inazuma Ryu Tai Jutsu program is our core martial arts system. Students in the Jr program are taught the core concepts of Self-control, Effort, Benevolence, Veracity, Character, Sincerity, Honor, Loyalty, Justice, and Courage.
Students working through the Jr program learn positive ways to cope with stressors from ADD/ADHD and bullying. As in the adult program, the junior students will be exposed to different stretching and cardio exercises that will increase their flexibility and muscle tone and help them stay fit. Students will also learn the history and philosophy of the martial arts.
In these classes, we focus on the application of the core concepts in conjunction with practical self-defense, for street situations in today’s world, primarily focusing on close quarter combat. Adult Saigo Ha Daito Ryu Aiki Jutsu/Aikido
Minimum 2 Classes Per Week
The Aikido martial arts system is on the other side of the spectrum as it relates to the Tai Jutsu system. It is a more passive martial art. Aikido is primarily the art of redirecting an opponent’s energy, be it cognitive or physical. Due to its off-balancing techniques, the practitioner learns how to fall correctly without sustaining injury. Aikido emphasizes learning how to receive a throw because a majority of the aikido techniques have throws contained in them. There are elements in this system to reduce the fear of falling that uniquely builds confidence. If an assailant were to attack an Aikido practitioner, the Aikido student would move off to the side to avoid getting struck, redirect the assailant’s energy to ward off the attack, get the assailant into a lock technique, and either choose to immobilize the assailant, without harm or the student could utilize a throw technique to project the assailant away. The student studying Aikido will also study the history and philosophy of this system.
Adult Martial Arts Kumiuchi Ryu Jiu Jutsu- By Invitation only
Minimum 2 Classes Per Week
There is a time honored tradition within the martial arts to pay respect to the Martial Arts mentor who sacrificed time and attention to nurture, guide, and instruct another to rise to the title of Soke by continuing the mentor’s martial art’s system. As such, I, Soke LeClair pay hommage to my mentor, Soke Rubiano’s system- Kumiuchi Ryu Jiu Jutsu. Students at our dojo begin their martial arts journey with my Kindai system and when the practitioner achieves the brown belt level, that student has all the principles and concepts needed to transfer into the Kumiuchi Ryu system. Therefore, the student may receive an invitation to commence a dual study of the two systems simultaneously. The Jiu and Tai Jutsu systems are a more aggressive type of martial art, using a wide variety of blocks, strikes, chokes, and throws in combination with other defensive maneuvers.
Private Martial Arts Instruction- Any style- Members only
$45 per 1/2 hr
Private classes are scheduled in 1/2 hour increments, which are taught by Soke Rick LeClair to current members only- no drop-ins. Private instruction is provided to hone martial arts and self defense skills to aid the student in mastery of techniques for self-discipline, confidence, and advancement. Private classes count toward rank time requirements. All students are highly encouraged to book private classes two weeks to a month prior to a test date to illuminate any weak areas for additional practice and support prior to testing.
